A minute with Stelana Kliris Filmmaker

Where do you live?
I live in Nicosia with my fiancé Alex.

Best childhood memory?
I grew up in South Africa surrounded by lots of family so there are too many to mention! But I loved family trips down to the Cape or the Game Reserves.

Most frequented restaurant and absolute favourite dish? What food would you really turn your nose up to?
Ta Piatakia in Limassol, hands down! My favourite dish there is the duck with walnut sauce… otherwise I’m a pizza girl! My least favourite dishes are trachana and kolokasi.

What did you have for breakfast?
Muesli and Youtube videos.

Would you class yourself as a day or night person? What’s your idea of the perfect night/day out?
I’m a day person – a perfect day to me is going somewhere new with good company. I love discovering new places, whether in Cyprus or abroad.

Best book ever read?
Tough question… A Tale of Two Cities, just because of the story and the characters and the very moving ending; I cried like a baby.

Favourite film of all time?
Committed… obviously! Actually, it’s The Godfather. No explanation necessary, the film is perfection.

Favourite holiday destination? What’s your dream trip?
New York – the energy there is like nowhere else in the world and I love that they have so much to offer in terms of theatre, film, music… and they have the best pizza!

What music are you listening to in the car at the moment?
My radio broke recently so I’m mostly listening to my own singing, much to the amusement/annoyance of other drivers.

What is always in your fridge?
A human head, but my lawyer says I shouldn’t talk about it.

Dream house: rural retreat or urban dwelling? Where would it be, what would it be like?
Rural retreat but with decent proximity to the city. I love being surrounded by nature, but I still want access to the hustle and bustle of a city. So perhaps a cosy home, nothing too big, perhaps near the sea.

If you could pick anyone at all (alive or dead) to go out for the evening with, who would it be?
Could we make it a dinner party, because I have a long list! I suppose for now I would say Marilyn Monroe. I think she was and is a very misunderstood figure and there is still so much mystery behind the icon. I’d love to know what kind of woman captures the heart of one of the greatest athletes and writers of her time, not to mention the president. I think there was so much more to her than we ever saw.

If the world is ending in 24 hours what would you do?
Take my loved ones and go to a spot where we would have a great view of the end. Or I would just panic. A lot.

What is your greatest fear?
Losing someone I love.

Tell me a joke…
This is the worst joke in the world, but you asked…Two Eskimos are paddling across a lake in their kayak. It starts to snow and the kayak starts to fill up with snow and sink. The Eskimos decide to build a fire in the kayak to melt the snow. This of course doesn’t work and the kayak sinks and they die. What’s the moral of the story?
You can’t have your kayak and heat it. I told you it was bad.
