Police seek Syrian man in connection with people smuggling

Police said on Tuesday they were seeking Ahmed Badawi, 25 from Syria to facilitate investigations connected with conspiracy to commit a crime and assisting illegal immigrants to enter or stay in the territory of the Republic, and smuggling of migrants.

The alleged offences were committed on August 2, 2016 in the area of Pigaineia village, police said. Two groups of Syrian migrants – around 30 people in all – likely sailing out of Turkey, arrived in the same spot within a week in early August.

Anyone who knows anything or may have seen Badawi should contact Morphou area CID or their nearest police station or the citizen hotline 1460 or via the online form ‘crime report’ on the police website www.police.gov.cy
