Customs seize contraband cigarettes, fine kiosk owner

A Paralimni kiosk owner on Tuesday had to pay a fine of €11,500 after a large amount of cigarettes and tobacco for which tax had not been paid were found in his possession.

Following a tip-off, customs officers searched the kiosk of the 39-year-old man, a resident of Sotira, and seized 159 packs of cigarettes and 12 kilos of tobacco of various brands.

The officers slapped the man with a fine of €11,500 which he paid.
