Greece and Cyprus are fully aligned President Nicos Anastasiades said on Tuesday following a meeting with Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Katrougalos in Nicosia.

The Greek diplomat is on the island for talks ahead of a meeting with his Turkish counterpart, Mevlut Cavusoglu, on Thursday in Turkey.

After his meeting with Katrougalos at the Presidential Palace in the morning, Anastasiades tweeted that he had a constructive meeting with the Greek foreign minister.

“Our two governments are in consultation and there is full alignment,” Anastasiades said.

Katrougalos was also scheduled to meet with Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides, House Speaker Demetris Syllouris and Archbishop Chrysostomos.

Earlier in the day, he visited the imprisoned graves where fighters who fought during the 1955-59 struggle to liberate Cyprus from the colonial administration are buried.

Katrougalos said prior to his visit that the aim was the mutual briefing and the overall coordination of the two countries’ actions regarding national issues, especially the Cyprus Issue.
