Two arrested over building site thefts (Updated)

Handcuffs 07 1

Paphos court on Wednesday remanded two people, a man aged 43 and a boy aged 16 for five days in connection with the theft of items worth €25,000 from a building site.

A 57-year-old man told police on Tuesday afternoon that during the past two months aluminium doors, windows and solar panels were stolen from a building under construction in the Paphos district.

While investigating the case, police officers spotted a pickup truck heading towards the site.

The truck was not registered and had no insurance or MOT, police said.

The two persons in the vehicle, aged 43 and 16, were arrested.

When they were questioned, the suspects allegedly admitted stealing the items.

Most of the stolen property was later found in their home in the Paphos district, police said.

Paphos CID spokesman Michalis Ioannou told CNA there were still around 30 witness statements needed and to also establish where other reported stolen items not found with the suspects, had been offloaded. Police would also look into whether the two suspects were tied to similar thefts from building sites.
