Cartagena: queen of Colombia’s Caribbean coast

In this video, we take a pre-Covid trip to Cartagena, Colombia’s historic Caribbean coastal city of preserved beauty, set within 13km of centuries-old colonial stone walls.

Attesting to its cultural value, thanks to its maze of cobbled alleys, bougainvillea-clad balconies, leafy plazas and vast churches, Cartagena’s walled city was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984.

Beyond Cartagena, those seeking a tropical paradise should head for the white, jungle-fringed beaches of Tayrona National Park near Santa Marta. The translucent waters around the fishing village of Taganga are also a prime location to learn to scuba dive.

Meanwhile, those more keen to explore inland, are sure to enjoy a five-day trek to the Ciudad Perdida, the archaeological site of an ancient city in Colombia’s Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.
