The International Cyprus Film Days for Children and Youth 2021 presents a fresh and innovative programme in this seventh edition, which is scheduled to be held exclusively online. It is curated for children aged between 9 and 14 and aims at enhancing the perception, aesthetics and intellectual maturity of young viewers. By introducing young audiences to quality world cinema, the festival gives them the opportunity to enjoy film as well as to participate in workshops led by acclaimed film professionals.

Five fascinating workshops by film professionals, as well as online screenings of four films make up this year’s edition, which will take place from April 16 to 24, in the framework of Cyprus Film Days International Festival.

Finding new ways to educate, entertain and engage, the festival surpasses the challenges imposed by the pandemic by taking full advantage of technology, thus offering a unique opportunity to children and students from across the island to watch four films online, for free.

To acquire access to these screenings, schools and/or individuals are asked to send an e-mail to [email protected]. The four captivating films are: My Brother Chases Dinosaurs (12+) by Stefano Cipani, Rocca Changes the World (12+) by Katja Benrath, Romy’s Salon (9-12) by Mischa Camp and My Grandpa is an Alien (9-12) by Marina Andree Skop.

Moreover, this year, the festival will be hosting a series of online workshops for young film enthusiasts. On Saturday, April 17 and Sunday, April 18 participants. First on the Saturday morning between 9am and 10.30am is a workshop in Greek by director Marios Lizidis called ‘A glimpse into filmmaking’. Then at 10.45am graphic designers and animators Yiorgos Tsangaris and Eleni Handriotou will host a workshop called ‘Handmade Animation: Techniques, films and games’, also in Greek. The final session for the day is a workshop is in English by director and producer Laura Gaynor titled ‘My home studio – make a lockdown masterpiece with only your phone’ at 12pm.

Sunday’s two workshops are also in Greek. All of the workshops are designed for a young audience aged between 12-18, however, these will be open to anyone interested in attending.

The fun and the rich festival agenda don’t stop there. A team of children will represent Cyprus, as the island’s national jury, in the European Film Academy’s Young Audience Awards. Specifically, young film enthusiasts aged between 12 and 14 are invited to send their contact details (name, age, address and phone number) to [email protected] to take part in the Jury that will award the Best European Film for Children and Youth.
