Vanishing acts: how moths and butterflies ‘disappear’

In this video, Natural History Museum scientist, Dr. David Lees, introduces some of the butterflies and moths with camouflage so clever that they can outwit both predators… and Lepidoptera experts!

Their cloaking strategies include not only ingenious markings and colours, but also actual 3D structural changes in their anatomy, so as to imitate and ‘disappear’ into their environment.
