Bomb squad called in for suitcase outside Presidential Palace (Updated)

Police on Sunday afternoon said they destroyed in a controlled explosion a suitcase found outside the Presidential Palace.

Members of the police bomb squad were called in on Sunday afternoon after a suitcase that was treated as a suspicious object, was found outside the Palace. Police said they were alerted at around 3 pm. The suitcase was located outside of the Palace fence.

Police announced at around 5 pm that the object was destroyed in a controlled explosion. The object did not contain explosives, police said.
