Coronavirus: Five businesses, 26 individuals fined for breaking decrees

Police on Thursday said they fined five businesses a total of €7,000 for violating coronavirus protocols as part of 3,184 nationwide checks.

The checks were carried out between 6am on Wednesday and 6am on Thursday.

The largest fine of €4,000 was issued to a Larnaca-based supermarket where employees were found without a face mask, while another establishment in the district received a €500 fine because the manager was not wearing a face mask, a police spokesperson told the Cyprus Mail.

A Limassol-based supermarket that allowed entry to customers without a SafePass was fined €1,500, while another supermarket in Paphos was fined €500 because a staff member was not wearing a facemask.

The fifth business concerned a barber shop in Nicosia where the manager was not wearing a face mask and was issued a €500 fine.

As part of the checks, 26 individuals were also fined, mainly for not wearing a face mask, police said.

Three people were fined in Nicosia after 955 checks, 11 in Limassol after 345 checks, one in Larnaca after 599 checks and five in Paphos after 313 checks. Six more people were fined in Famagusta after 638 checks while no violations were reported in Morphou after 142 checks.

Traffic as well as port and marine police carried out 152 and 18 checks respectively without any bookings.
