Coronavirus: No deaths, 160 people test positive on Friday (Updated)

Authorities on Friday reported no new fatalities from Covid-19, as testing detected 160 positives from 57,738 samples.

The death toll since the start of the pandemic remains at 571.

Meantime in hospitals 60 people were being treated, of whom 22 said to be in a serious condition. Of these 22, six were intubated, another four in ICU but not on ventilators, and 12 in high-dependency units.

In addition, four post Covid-19 patients continued to be intubated in ICU.

The health ministry said 65 per cent of those in hospital did not a vaccination record.

The latest 57,739 tests – of which 5,028 done with PCR – gave 160 positives, broken down as follows: 27 from 529 samples via contact tracing; eight from 2,580 samples taken at the airports; 25 from 1,452 samples taken through private initiative; four from 267 samples processed at the microbiology laboratories of general hospitals; one from 200 samples as part of doctor referrals; 56 from 32,302 samples processed by private clinical labs and pharmacies; and 39 from 20,408 samples as part of the government free screening programme.

 

Notably, no positives emerged from tests at care homes in Nicosia, Limassol and Larnaca districts. Thousands of tests at primary schools yielded 10 positives.

 

The cumulative number of positives since the outbreak last year now stands at 124,177.
