Police on Sunday said they arrested a 35-year-old man in Limassol for the possession of and transport of explosives, hurling threats, intoxication, assaulting an officer, causing bodily harm and resisting arrest.

The suspect attacked on Saturday evening one of the police officers who had responded to a call from a restaurant where the 35-year-old, under the influence of alcohol, had threatened the manager showing him three bullets he was holding.

When officers arrived, police said, they found the 35-year-old screaming and hurling insults at them. When they tried to approach him, he attacked one of them, grabbing him by the neck. The suspect was arrested, while a nine-millimetre bullet found outside the restaurant was seized and will be sent for forensic testing.

The officer was taken to hospital where he was found to have bruises to the neck, police said.
