Summertime on the island usually means music festivals, open-air screenings and all sorts of performances and events held outdoors. Rialto Theatre is taking its stage outside to the parking place behind its venue to welcome a series of events, including the 17th Cyprus Rialto World Music Festival which opens on July 17.

Rialto’s World Music Festival kicks off with the concert Choral Crossroads 2022 which welcomes choirs from Jordan, Lebanon, Greece, Serbia and Cyprus. Specifically, Nai Choir, Université Saint-Joseph Choir, the Choir of IN Methodios and Kyrillos of Thessaloniki, the Music College of Belgrade and Epilogi Choir will perform together on stage.

Choral Crossroads is an institution of the Epilogi Cultural Movement that started in 2011 with Youth Choirs from eight countries and the participation of 400 choir members and continued in 2013, 2018 and 2019 with the participation of hundreds of choirs from Europe and the Arab world. This institution continued in 2021, where, in the midst of a pandemic, 42 choirs from Jordan, Hungary, Greece, Lebanon, France and Cyprus, using technology, united their voices by performing the well-known Cypriot song The Milia.

In this year’s event, choirs from Europe and the Arab world meet again with choirs from Cyprus, creating together a choir and an original programme which combines the musical tradition of their countries, with songs dedicated to women and life. The result of the four-day collaboration of this multinational choir will be presented to the public, in the context of the Cyprus Rialto World Music Festival.
