Live music coming up in the capital

Music lovers of all kinds have something to look forward to in Nicosia this January as several bands and artists prepare live shows. Local ensembles, stars of the Greek music scene and more will fill Nicosia’s nightlife with tunes and beats.

Coming up very soon is a live music night at Beer & Beer Makariou which will welcome the local band Sands of Time. On Thursday, four musicians will take the floor of the beer bar and restaurant and present an acoustic live rock set. Their setlist will include hard and heavy rock classics of the 70s, 80s and 90s, kicking off at around 9pm. Also performing at Beer & Beer is another four-piece band titled Killswitch. On Friday, Killswitch will return to the Nicosia bar for a rock musical journey through decades.

For a bit of jolly swing, Sarah’s Jazz Club will also host a live performance on January 6, welcoming back to its stage the vocalist Ronja Burve. Characterised by her youthful voice and passion for vocal improvisation, Ronja is a jazz singer who strives to achieve freedom in music by treating her voice as an instrument while exploring its colours. Joining her on stage to present of a collection of swing tunes is pianist Christos Yerolatsitis, bass player Kyriacos Kesta and drummer Marios Spyrou.

Then on January 12, New Division will welcome Minus One for a live music party. Musicians Andreas Kapatais, Harrys Pari, Constantinos Amerikanos, Orestis Savva and Chris Ioannides will create a party atmosphere by playing the best hits from the 80s and the 90s to modern favourite songs to get the audience up and dancing.

Towards the end of the month, popular Cypriot singer Michalis Hadjiyiannis will take part in a charity concert with Kostas Hadjis, raising money for the Cyprus Anticancer Society. Two shows will take place in late January, one in Nicosia and one in Limassol, where Hadjiyiannis and Hadjis will take the stage to perform beloved timeless classics, accompanied by 200 guitars.

The concerts are organised by the Cyprus Guitar Orchestra and supported by the Cyprus Anticancer Society, inviting the two musicians to fill theatres with melodic tunes. On January 28 at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre and January 29 at Pattihio Theatre Limassol, Hadjiyiannis and Hadjis will present a nostalgic but hopeful repertoire filled with beloved songs.
