President, House speaker pay tribute to EU founder Jacques Delors

President Nikos Christodoulides and House Speaker Annita Demetriou have paid tributes at the passing of former President of the European Commission Jacques Delors, who died on Wednesday at the age of 98.

In a post on platform X, Christodoulides praised Delors as a true visionary for a more united and integrated EU and the founding father of the single market.

He noted that Delors had laid the foundation for the monetary union. “Never has his legacy and vision for an ‘ever closer EU’ been more pertinent and valuable for our Union,” the president said.

House Speaker Annita Demetriou for her part, posted on X, that Jacques Delors was an iconic figure who shaped the vision of the EU.

“We honour the memory of Jacques Delors, the iconic figure who shaped the European vision and embodied European integration,” sha said.

“Our minimal obligation is to continue his legacy.”
