A group of 55 irregular migrants found on a boat in the sea near Ayia Napa around midnight will be tested for the coronavirus and taken to a reception centre, police announced on Monday morning.

The migrants, believed to be from Syria, were spotted by a police vessel off Cape Greco and taken to the Ayia Napa marina.

The boat was carrying 36 men, five women and 14 minors.

During the night the men remained on board while the women and children were allowed to disembark.
