Alexis Polykarpou, assistant professor in the department of electrical engineering, computer engineering and informatics at Frederick University, is the new chair of the committee of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (CC). -EMEA).

The Institution of Engineering and Technology is one of the largest engineering organisations in the world with more than 168,000 members in 150 countries. It aims to represent the engineering profession in matters of common interest and helps governments inform the public about engineering and technology issues. At the same time, it provides advice for all areas of engineering.

The committee on Europe, the Middle East and Africa coordinates the planning and management of the resources available for activities in these areas, while managing financial matters. In addition, it evaluates initiatives and opportunities created by interregional communities during the year and distributes development funding.

The committee also develops, maintains and publishes best practice guidelines to help support and ensure coherence between local networks, while also advising other committees.

“On behalf of the entire Frederick University community, I would like to congratulate Dr. Polykarpou for his election as chairman of the committee of the Institute of Engineering and Technology and I wish him every success in his new duties. This achievement is a special honour for both the University and Cyprus, as the committee consists of eight members from all over Europe, the Middle East and Africa,” dean of the school of engineering at Frederick University professor Christos Themistos commented.
