Across the world, discarded face masks threaten wildlife

From crabs to macaques, surgical face masks and rubber gloves used to safeguard health in the midst of the spread of Covid-19, are now posing a grave threat to wildlife around the world, say environmentalists.

The items in question have been found littering parks, streets and waterways across the globe.

Campaigners are urging the public to dispose of their gloves and masks responsibly, and in particular to cut through the ear straps of the face covers to avoid creatures getting entangled in them.
