Human factor: revisiting Steve McCurry’s searing images

This video looks at milestones pictures from the searing body of work of US photographer and photojournalist Steve McCurry.

Perhaps his most famous image, McCurry’s photo ‘Afghan Girl’, of a girl with piercing green eyes, has appeared on the cover of ‘National Geographic’ several times, and he has been a member of the prestigious Magnum Photos – an international photographic cooperative – since 1986.

He is also the recipient of numerous awards, including Magazine Photographer of the Year, awarded by the National Press Photographers’ Association, the Royal Photographic Society’s Centenary Medal, and two first-place prizes in the World Press Photo contest (1985 and 1992).

Having created unforgettable images from all seven continents and numerous countries, McCurry’s work spans conflicts, vanishing cultures, ancient traditions and contemporary culture alike – yet always retains the human factor.
