Nicosia Pop Fest plays question the way we live

How do we kiss? How much do we kiss? Who do we kiss? This is what an upcoming performance at the Nicosia Pop Up Festival asks. Titled What does the tongue do?, the piece deals with the act of kissing, a precious moment between two people where personal space merges and speech stops.

Directed by Eleana Alexandrou and presented by bytheway productions, the performance will take place at Theatro Polis on March 8 at 7pm, inviting audiences to reflect on the process of kissing. In the following week, on March 14, another performance brings more questions to the table on how we function.

Genes and Tonic is a solo performance by Evie Demetriou and it’s a piece that questions the relationship between the past and identity. How much does the past have a say in our present? Do our genes matter? Are we free to choose our own destiny? Taking the role of a wannabe DJ, the performer takes the audience on a journey from her own memories of the past to the present. Creating a humorous and uplifting environment she combines movement and text, sometimes in conventional forms and other times through rap and other interactive elements. The 30-minute performance also takes place at Theatro Polis at 6pm and is free to attend, like all of the festival’s events.
