Coronavirus: Family reject rumours of vaccine-related death

The family of the first Cypriot to receive the vaccine have stepped in to dispel rumours linking his death to the coronavirus jab.

“My grandfather did not die from the vaccine and shame on those who rushed to draw conclusions and cause panic,” the granddaughter of 84-year-old Andreas Raounas wrote on social media.

She cited an article which announced the death of “the first citizen who was vaccinated in Cyprus”.

“The title does not explicitly mention this, but many people interpreted it in this way …. and started reproducing the article with their own comments that have nothing to do with reality,” she added.

Raounas died from a heart attack early on Monday, after suffering from heart problems for about 32 years. He was hospitalised on Saturday and had tested negative for coronavirus.

He received the Pfizer vaccine on December 27, same day as President Nicos Anastasiades, at the Nicosia-based nursing home he was residing.
