Artists given free access to Nicosia cultural venues

For the second year in a row, artists will have free access to Nicosia’s cultural venues to boost their exposure, Nicosia municipality said on Thursday.

The aim is to support artists who were affected by the pandemic, while enriching cultural activities (music, dance, exhibitions etc) offered to Nicosia’s residents and visitors, an announcement said.

The new initiative involves offering eight spaces exempt from rent and entertainment tax, giving technical assistance and covering operating expenses, thus ensuring the greatest possible financial benefit for the artists.

The eight spaces in question are Eleftheria Square and open air amphitheatre, Melina Mercouri Hall, Pallouriotissa Old Market, ‘Myloi’ Cultural Centre in Kaimakli, Costas and Rita Severis foundation (indoor space and inner courtyard), Leventis Municipal Museum (indoor space and inner courtyard – mini theatre), Hambis Printmaking Museum and Chrysaliniotissa Crafts Centre.

The initiative will last until the end of December 2021 and is directed exclusively towards artists in cultural and creative fields, film screenings, plays and exhibitions – not for commercial purposes or bodies, the municipality stressed.
