Exhibition inspired by butterflies

A new exhibition in Limassol sees Theodora Foutrou present her latest pieces of work, discussing the role of nature in the creative process. Titled The Domestication of the Butterfly, the exhibition will run at gARTen Artspace until June 9.

“Through my practice,” says artist Theodora, “of recording the traces of art procedures and mechanisms, I present my own stories and concerns related to the subject.” As such, her exhibition-installation changes form in parallel with the cycle of silkworm breeding and the differentiation of the artworks.

It discusses the participation of nature in the creative process, art as a process and the exhibition as a work of art. “The domestication of the butterfly,” she adds, “concerns all domesticated species and its fate raises ethical questions about interventions in the functioning of life. The breeding of the silkworm, closely intertwined with the history of the world, makes reference to our origins. It is a metaphor and also raises questions about our condition of existence.”
