Timothée Chalamet to play Willy Wonka in origin story

Timothée Chalamet will play Roald Dahl’s beloved chocolatier in ‘Wonka’, a musical to be based on the early life of the character. Reps for Chalamet confirm he will be singing and dancing in the movie.

Dahl’s popular kids’ book ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ follows a poor boy named Charlie Bucket, who wins a golden ticket to tour the chocolate factory run by the reclusive and mysterious Willy Wonka.

Gene Wilder memorably portrayed the character in the 1971 film adaptation, while Johnny Depp later played the role in the 2005 reboot, directed by Tim Burton.
