Κολοκοτρώνης web

A discussion prompted by the outdoor portrait exhibition commemorating 1821, now on display in Nicosia and Limassol, is joining the online lecture series of the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation. As of Friday, the Let’s Talk History podcast has been enriched with the addition of a new episode-discussion between Artemis Scutari, President of the Sylvia Ioannou Foundation, and Ηarikleia Y. Demakopoulou, Doctor of the History of Law at Democritus University of Thrace. Demakopoulou is the scientific editor and research coordinator of the volume titled History Has a Face: Contribution of a Belgian Diplomat to the Iconography of 1821.

The online podcast series Let’s Talk History is scientifically validated and at the same time friendly to the listener. Invited to the series are acclaimed scholars, discussing a host of Cyprus related topics related to the museums, collections, exhibitions and actions of the Cultural Foundation, but also any given period of Cypriot history, archaeology, art history and literature.

In this new episode of the radio programme, journalist Maria Kozakou talks to Scutari and Demakopoulou about the outdoor exhibition of portraits from the 1821 Greek Revolution, hosted in Athens. Reference will also be made on the publication of the Sylvia Ioannou Foundation and the Historical Ethnological Society of Greece – National Historical Museum, History has a Face. Figures of 1821 in Otto’s Greece by the Belgian diplomat Benjamin Mary. The discussion will focus on the Collection of the Sylvia Ioannou Foundation, on portraits as works of art and historical evidence, on the research that preceded the publication and, finally, on Benjamin Mary himself.

The outdoor exhibition has travelled to Cyprus in the context of a collaboration between the Sylvia Ioannou Foundation with the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation and the Municipalities of Nicosia and Limassol where it will remain until the end of the year.
