Coronavirus: Salamis calls off cruise programme as staff couldn’t vaccinate in time

Salamis has postponed the cruise programme of its liner Salamis Filoxenia for this year because it was not possible to have all the staff vaccinated in time, it announced on Friday.

The Cyprus-based travel, tourism and shipping organisation said it took this “difficult but at the same time responsible decision”, while taking into consideration the fragile epidemiological picture and the new mutations of the Covid-19 virus found in the community. These, in combination with the fact that not all its staff was vaccinated in time, it said, “are a combination of factors that do not allow us to conduct leisure travels smoothly at this time.”

It added that the sense of social responsibility that has characterised the Salamis organisation in the field of tourism and beyond for over 60 years, as well as its concern for the safety and health of both the crew and the passengers, has prevailed.

“Our goal will always be the best and human-centred passenger service and we hope that by the end of the year the pandemic will be fully addressed, so that we are ready to announce the cruise programme for 2022,” the company said.

Salamis thanked its passengers, staff, crew and partners for their understanding, their ongoing support and trust over the years.
