Healing through sound

Ancient cultures have numerous rituals and healing methods, many of which we have learnt to practice today. There is the humble meditation, tantric massages, cacao ceremonies and sound healing – a sound-based meditation that is coming to Paphos tomorrow.

We know that specific sounds and frequencies can bring relaxation and calmness, it’s why some people listen to ocean sounds before they fall asleep and white noise for concentration. A sound healing workshop is taking place at the Dora YogaArt Sanctuary in Paphos on Tuesday and again on Tuesday next week, to connect the inner body through the power of sound.

“A Sound Bath is a deeply immersive, full-body listening experience that intentionally uses sound (singing bowls, gongs, voice etc) to invite gentle yet powerful therapeutic and restorative processes to nurture the mind and body,” explains yogini Dora Nemes.

“When you sink into a Sound Bath and guide your awareness to your listening, you allow your brain waves to slow, shifting from a more active state to a more relaxed state. The sounds introduced during a Sound Bath are an invitation into a deeper state of consciousness, an opportunity to unplug from external stimuli and gain perspective on what’s going on within you.”

Starting at 7.15pm at her venue in Paphos, Dora will guide participants on a one-hour inward journey through sound healing meditation. Over the past 14 years, she has been living and practising yoga offering classes, aromatherapy and retreats in Cyprus and Hungary. Her three-month-long sound healing workshop series finally concludes this July, having started in May, with these two last sessions.

“The goal of the experience is to invite deep rest and relaxation and explore self-inquiry and self-discovery. All you need to do is have an open mind, get comfortable, and listen.”
