Police on Tuesday said they have arrested three men on suspicion of stealing electric tools from a Larnaca warehouse and attempting to escape using a stolen car.

The incident was reported to the authorities on Sunday by a contractor saying that unknown persons broke into his storage room between July 24 and 25 and stole an electric generator and a number of electric tools.

Police said that later that day they received information regarding a car without vehicle registration plates in Oroklini. Officers arrived at the scene and signalled to the 35-year-old driver to stop, who jumped out of the car as soon as the vehicle came to a stop and fled.

Two other men, both aged 40, who were passengers in the car were arrested after police found an electric tool in the car. The tool was later identified as one of the stolen items from the storage of the complainant.

The driver of the car was later identified and arrested on Monday, police said.

Following the emergence of further evidence, police said the car appears to have been used in cases of theft of car catalyst converters that took place over the last two months in Larnaca.
