Coronavirus: Six deaths and 791 new cases recorded on Tuesday (updated)

The health ministry announced six deaths from Covid-19 and 791 new cases on Tuesday.

Three men and three women died, bringing total deaths to 410. Since the start of the pandemic 269 men and 141 women have died from coronavirus.

An 81-year-old man died at Larnaca hospital, while two women aged 86 and 80 and two men aged 78 and 77 died at Famagusta hospital.

The other two were a 77-year-old man and 67-year-old woman, both of whom died at the ICU at Nicosia general hospital.

There are 292 coronavirus patients in hospitals, 80 of whom are in serious condition. Of the 80 patients, 34 are intubated, four are in ICU without a ventilator, and 42 in a High Dependency Unit.

A total of 65,063 tests were carried out by means of PCR and rapid tests with the total of 791 cases representing a positivity rate of 1.22 per cent. The total number of positives to date is 99,360.

Of the 65,063 tests, 6,693 were PCR and 58,370 rapid tests.

The majority, 469 of the 791 positives came from rapid testing performed at health ministry testing sites, with 33 more cases found out of 1,057 rapid tests performed at private labs and pharmacies.

A total of 192 cases came from 3,238 samples taken through private initiative, while 454 samples taken through contacts of already confirmed cases yielded 62 positives.

Twenty two positives came from 183 samples processed by hospital labs, while 228 samples taken through GP referrals yielded no positives.

In addition, 2,590 samples were taken at airports with 13 positives.

Rapid testing yielded 155 cases in Nicosia (with 0.76 per cent positivity rate), 118 in Limassol (0.87 per cent positivity rate), 75 in Larnaca (0.98 per cent positivity rate), 67 in Paphos (0.84 per cent positivity rate and 52 in Famagusta (0.87 per cent positivity rate).
