Coronavirus: 32,667 jabs in past week, 71.8 pct adults complete vaccination

A total of 32,667 vaccinations have been administered in the past seven days, the health ministry said on Friday, as it announced that 77.2 per cent of the adult population has received the first jab and 71.8 per cent have completed their vaccination.

According to the European Centre for Disease Control (ECDC), the equivalent figures for the EU are 74.4 per cent (one dose) και 64.8 per cent (fully vaccinated).

In Cyprus, among the younger age groups, 33.6 per cent of 16-17-year-olds have received at least one dose and 24.8 per cent have completed their vaccination.

For the 12 to 15-year age group, 12.3 per cent have received the first jab since they became eligible for vaccination on August 2.

As regards vaccination by district, Paphos remains the leader with 88 per cent of the population having received at least the first jab, followed by Famagusta district with 85.1 per cent, Nicosia with 76.9 per cent, and Limassol with 75.5 per cent. Larnaca had the lowest vaccination coverage with 71.1 per cent of the population having received at least the first jab.

The health ministry said that walk-in centres have administered 29,761 jabs (first and second) since they opened on July 15 as follows:  July 15-31 – 10,626 vaccinations, August 2-18 – 12,075, August 13 -3372, August 17 – 1368, August 18 – 1212, August 19 – 1108

In the past seven days, 32,667 vaccinations were administered in all the districts, both by appointment and at walk-in centres, of which 11,051 were for the first dose and 21,616 for the second.

The ministry said appointments have been made for 36,666 vaccinations including second dose for the next weeks. The walk-in centres continue their operation.
