Plaques honouring people from Strovolos who have been missing since 1974 were stolen from a memorial in the area on Sunday, the municipality announced on Monday.

The plates were taken from the park near Thesprotias Street in Strovolos on the same day that a memorial was scheduled.

“The municipality has lodged a complaint and appeals for respect for public property, especially for such an issue, which concerns people who lost their lives during 1974,” an announcement said.

Strovolos municipality said it was concerned by the incident and is looking at ways of dealing with it and getting the plaques back.

It is noted that no other damage was caused to the park facilities nor was anything else stolen.
