A 21-year-old Ukrainian national was airlifted to Paphos General Hospital on Thursday after suffering an electric shock aboard the merchant ship Astrid L nine nautical miles north of Cape Arnaoutis, the Larnaca-based Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) said.

The JRCC said it had received a call at around 9.25 pm alerting it that a member of the ship’s crew under the Antigua-Barbuda flag needed urgent medical attention after being electrocuted and requesting he be immediately airlifted.

The JRCC activated the national search and rescue plan “NEARCHOS” mobilizing a National Guard helicopter with a specialised nurse of the Ambulance Service of the State Health Services Organisation, to transport the individual to hospital.
