Police on Monday said they arrested seven asylum seekers who attempted to leave Cyprus using forged travel documents.

The arrests concern four Congolese men, aged 35, 28, 27, and 25, a 20-year-old man from Cameroon and two Congolese women aged 21 and 26.

They attempted to depart from Larnaca airport over the last four days for another European country using fake documents.

The charges investigated against them concern forgery and circulation of a forged document. Police said the seven are expected to face the court within the week.
