Coronavirus: No deaths, 109 new cases on Friday (updated)

The health ministry announced 109 new cases of Covid-19 and no deaths on Friday.

As there were no deaths, the total death toll remains at 550, of whom 350 were men and 200 women.

There are currently 77 people being treated for coronavirus in hospital, of whom 34 are in serious condition. Out of the 34 patients, 14 are intubated, two are in ICU without a ventilator and 18 in a high dependency unit.

Among all patients 76.83 per cent are unvaccinated.

A total of 60,278 PCR and rapid tests were carried out, with a positivity rate of 0.18 per cent.

Of the 60,278 tests, 5,643 were PCR and 54,634 rapid tests.

The majority, 52 cases, came from 31,669 samples taken at private labs and pharmacies while 15 more came from 22,966 samples taken at the health ministry’s free testing sites.

Twenty cases were found out of 283 samples taken from contacts of already confirmed cases, while 12 came from 2,155 tests taken through private initiative.

Two more cases were detected from 162 samples processed by hospital labs.

In addition, 2,903 samples were taken at airports with eight positives.

Lastly, 140 samples taken through GP referrals turned up no positives.

The total number of positives detected to date is 119,590.

In the north, 66 cases were detected from 21,789 tests taken in the past 24 hours.

According to the ‘health ministry,’ two cases are imported, 12 were contacts of confirmed cases, and 52 were domestic infections.

A total of 22 cases were found in Nicosia, five in Kyrenia, 20 in Famagusta and five in Trikomo.

So far, the north has reported 19,104 positives and 77 deaths.
