Coronavirus: 29 fines after 3,773 checks

Police on Thursday said they issued 29 fines after carrying out 3,773 checks for breaches of coronavirus measures.

Most checks were carried out by officers in the capital who booked five people after 2,254 inspections, followed by Famagusta, where nine people were fined after 434 checks.

Limassol officers conducted 215 inspections and booked five people, while another six individuals were booked in Larnaca after 412 checks.

One business was booked in Paphos as well as three people following 92 checks.

No violations were reported in Morphou after 40 checks, police said.

Traffic, marine and port police also carried out 156 and 170 checks respectively without reporting any violations.

The checks were carried out between 6am on Wednesday and 6am on Thursday, police said.

Violations include failure to wear a face mask or carry a SafePass.
