Welfare dept staff protest over safety fears

welfare

Some staff at the social welfare office in Lakatamia in Nicosia on Wednesday walked out after an incident involving a group of people who began shouting after growing impatient of waiting.

When the aggravation began, officials called police who arrived at the scene and calmed the situation down, reports said. No one was attacked or injured during the incident.

However, a number of staff members walked out in protest, saying they felt unsafe in their working environment as similar incidents had happened in the recent past.
