Coronavirus: Bank branch fined €8000 for SafePass violations

Three Nicosia businesses received €16,000 in fines for failing to abide by coronavirus protocols following 1,682 checks in the capital, police said on Friday.

The first establishment, which was booked for €8,000, concerned a bank branch where the manager was not checking customers and staff for a SafePass, while officers found a client inside without a SafePass.

A greengrocer was also booked for €4,000 for not checking customers for a SafePass, while a supermarket was also fined the same amount for not checking its customers for a SafePass and after the manager was found working without a SafePass.

Six people were also booked in Nicosia for violating the measures, police said.

The checks were part of 3,351 checks in the government-controlled areas, carried out between 6am on Thursday and 6am on Friday.

In Limassol, five people were booked after 166 checks, two in Paphos after 82 checks and nine in Famagusta following 541 inspections.

No violations were reported in Larnaca after 537 checks, or in Morphou after 120 checks.

Traffic, marine and port police also conducted 185 and 38 inspections respectively, without any bookings.
