Coronavirus: One death and 174 new cases seen on Saturday (updated)

One person died from coronavirus on Saturday as 174 new cases were recorded.

The death was an 83-year-old man who died on Friday at the general hospital in Limassol.

His death brings to 576 the total number of people who have died from Covid since the start of the pandemic. Of these 368 were men and 208 women.

Meanwhile 74 people are being treated in hospital, 23 of them in a serious condition. Among the 23, seven are intubated, one is in ICU but not on a ventilator and 15 are in a high dependency unit.

Of all people in hospital 66.24 per cent have not had a single vaccine.

There were a total of 46,157 tests carried out on Saturday, giving a positivity rate of 0.38 per cent.

Among the tests 3,891 were PCR and the remaining 42,266 were rapid tests.

Since the start of the pandemic a total of 125,814 cases have been recorded.

Among Saturday’s cases six were found from contact tracing of those already diagnosed with the virus and four were found among arrivals at Larnaca and Paphos airports.

Meanwhile 23 were found among tests carried out on private initiative and five from samples taken to state hospital labs.

A total of 32,388 rapid tests at private labs and clinics found 77 cases and 9,878 tests carried out at government testing sites found 59 new cases.
