Coronavirus: Health ministry clarifies confusion over Covid cert’s ‘one-year validity’

The health ministry clarified on Wednesday that the EU Digital Covid Certificate is valid for one year from the date of the EUDCC rollout, which in Cyprus took place in August.

In a Q&A info sheet published by the health ministry, the document states that the vaccination certificate is valid for one year as of “the date of the first dose”, but the ministry clarified to the Cyprus Mail that it was linked to the rollout of the certificate itself and not the vaccine.

The Q&A answers frequent queries on the CovScan application – which assesses the validity of a person’s SafePass. The app is currently in place in Cyprus on a trial basis, until it comes into force on November 22.

According to the EU Commission’s Q&A on the certificate, they say it will apply for 12 months as from July 1, 2021.

“The Commission will present a report to the European Parliament and the Council three months before the end of application of the Regulation. Together with this report, the Commission could propose to extend the Covid certificate if necessary, taking into account the evolution of the epidemiological situation on the pandemic,” the EU Commission’s report reads.
