University of Cyprus and the Cyprus Integrity Forum have joined forces to fight corruption.

With the aim to promote initiatives supporting national legal and regulatory reforms to combat corruption and increase transparency in Cyprus, the University of Cyprus (UCY) and the Cyprus Integrity Forum signed a Memorandum of Understanding on December 15, 2021.

The Memorandum of Cooperation was signed on behalf of the University of Cyprus by the Rector, Professor Tassos Christofidis and on behalf of the Cyprus Integrity Forum (CIF) by the Chairman of the Board, Marios Skandalis.

Welcoming the delegation from the Cyprus Integrity Forum, the UCY Rector said “the more than 30 years of history of the University of Cyprus clearly testify that it is a model organisation in matters of transparency and meritocracy”.

For this reason, Christofides added, the university will work closely with the Cyprus Integrity Forum in a wide range of activities, aimed at restoring meritocracy in Cypriot society, for the benefit of the new generations.

For his part, Skandalis referred to a recent event co-organised by the two institutions during which young people were given the opportunity to express their views on issues of corruption in Cypriot society.

“Some of the attitudes of the young people highlighted the problems they face, especially in matters of their employment, due to the lack of meritocracy and transparency,” “, said Skandalis.
