Man remanded for drug possession (updated)

A 30-year-old man was remanded in police custody for five days on Thursday for possession of illegal drugs.

The man was found driving following a tip-off in the Famagusta district at around 7pm on Wednesday.

Officers found in his possession seven packages containing about 3.5 grammes of what is believed to be cocaine and two more packages with about two grammes of cannabis.

After that, police searched his apartment in Paralimni where they found 17 packages containing about one gramme of cannabis each, a half-smoked joint and a plastic grinder which also had a small quantity of cannabis inside.

Famagusta police said they are investigating whether the man intended to sell the drugs.
