Injured pensioner rescued from Paphos forest

Police on Wednesday said they helped rescue a pensioner who got lost and slightly injured in Paphos forest during his drive in the area.

According to Paphos assistant police director Michalis Ioannou, around 1pm on Tuesday police received information about an injured person in a steep area of the forest near Ayia Marina cemetery.

Police, together with an ambulance and the fire service arrived at the scene for investigations.

They found the 78-year-old man lying on the ground slightly injured.

According to the man’s statement to the police, he drove to the area around 10am that day but got lost and attempted to drive down a steep hill.

However, he could not drive back up, and decided to continue on foot towards the Ayia Marina Chrysochous village to call for help before he slipped and fell.

Police said the man suffered an injury on the face and some abrasions on his hands.

He was initially transferred to the Polis Chrysochous hospital and then the Paphos general hospital for examinations.
