Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides met his Italian counterpart Luigi Di Maio in Rome on Tuesday as part of a two-day visit – where the excellent ties between the two nations was reaffirmed.

The ministry announced that the two shared their views on a diverse range of topics, from the impacts of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine to the Cyprus problem; with Di Maio emphasising Italy’s support for an agreement based on UN resolutions.

Kasoulides informed the Italian team of the steps being taken as regards the Cyprus problem, such as the confidence building measures which have been proposed to try create the right conditions for negotiations to resume.

They also discussed ways to deepen cooperation in other sectors, such as energy and regional concerns.

The two nations can also work to broaden their links in tourism, trade and investment, the announcement added.

Elsewhere, Kasoulides met with representatives from the oil and gas giant Eni – with discussions focused on the development of the gas fields within Cyprus’ EEZ.
