Child drowning case file with AG’s office

Police investigators on Friday submitted to the legal service the case file into the drowning of a three-year-old girl at a hotel in Paphos on August 14, Cybc reported.

Police took statements both from staff members who were on duty at the time and from guests at the Kato Paphos hotel where the accident happened.

People around the pool area had not noticed the little girl entering the large pool and by the time someone spotted her, it was too late.

Testimonies have also been received from the ambulance crew that rushed to the scene and medical staff at Paphos hospital’s accident and emergency department.

According to Cybc, the police are also in possession of evidence recorded by the defibrillator which was used to try and resuscitate the child and which may help in the investigations.

Paphos police assistant spokesman Kyriacos Charalambous said police were cooperating with other services and departments involved with the case.

The family, from Nicosia, travelled to Paphos for holidays and on the afternoon of August 14 were all lounging by the pool on sunbeds.

The girl asked to swim in the children’s pool, but was later found unconscious in the larger, adult’s pool.
