A fire that broke out in Peyia, in an area close to the Paphos Zoo, has been brought under complete control according to a Twitter post by spokesperson for the fire services, Andreas Kettis.

The fire broke out close to 10am on Tuesday morning and burned one hectare of dry grass, wild vegetation, banana plantations and irrigation hoses.

A member of the Paphos fire service and three members of the forestry department helped extinguish the fire with the aid of two water-tankers.

Private residences were protected by the firefighting forces, Kettis said, adding that the cause of the blaze will be investigated in cooperation with the police.
