European Commission approves co-financing for cybersecurity centre project

A step forward for the Cybersecurity efforts of the Cypriot government is the approval for the EU co-financing of the N4CY project for the development of the National Coordination Center (NCCC-CY).

The Digital Security Authority announced that the N4CY project proposal concerning the development of the National Coordination Centre of Cyprus (NCCC-CY) was approved by the European Commission, securing EU co-financing for the project.

The announcement mentions: “We are now in the position alongside our partners, Cyprus Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF) to start the implementation of the project, which includes setting up the necessary processes and capabilities to act as NCC, designing calls for proposals to distribute available cascading funds, establishing procedures for the community members, contributing to education and awareness activities.”

The N4CY project aims at developing the National Cybersecurity Coordination Centre of the Republic of Cyprus and enhancing its ability to accomplish its mission and objectives.

Following the official appointment by the Council of Ministers, the Digital Security Authority (“DSA”) will coordinate the National Cybersecurity Coordination Centre of the Republic of Cyprus (“NCCC-CY”) in collaboration with the Cyprus Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF), which will lead activities relating to financial support to third parties. The Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy (DMRID) will contribute as an Associated Partner (AP).

The N4CY project objectives and implementation are in line with the implementation of the Cybersecurity Strategy of the Republic of Cyprus, and the project will greatly assist the NCCC-CY to be in a position to contribute well to the relevant European efforts in this area.

The Cypriot government has adopted decisions and policies to ensure the sustainability of the NCCC-CY, through the co-financing of future calls for proposals to be announced by the NCCC-CY and by supporting complementary actions besides those planned in the scope of this project.

Finally, the project will run for 2 years and according to the DSA it has been designed to meet its objectives. It will provide Cyprus with a capable and well-developed National Coordination Centre to handle cybersecurity attacks by developing further actions.
