Weekend jazz

erika soteri

Blues, swing and all that jazz! Another weekend will bring another round of live music nights at Sarah’s Jazz Club with some of the island’s most beloved and acclaimed jazz musicians returning to the Nicosia venue.

Coming up on Friday is Erika Soteri who will sing soul accompanied by Max Daniels on bass, Kris Grecian on drums and Andreas Epaminonda on guitar. “It’s always a pleasure to host Erika Soteri and her powerful band of musicians,” says the venue. “Usually a sell-out affair, she wows the audience every time with her deep and timeless vocals. So, you won’t want to miss it!” Erika will perform a set of age-old classics mixed with some of her original material taken from her debut EP.

Saturday’s performance will be all about the Thrilling 30s as the Steppin’ Out Jazz Band celebrates the jazz music of the 1930s. The quartet featuring Alice Ayvazian, Dimitris Miaris, Costas Challoumas and Marios Spyrou will take audiences on a musical journey through a decade when swing emerged as a dominant form in American music. Duke Ellington and his band members composed numerous swing-era hits that have now become standards. Think songs such as It Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing), Sophisticated Lady, and Caravan among others. The band’s performance promises to feature high energy and swinging rhythms, just like the 30s did.
