A 24-year-old man, who had escape police detention earlier this year, was jailed for 18 months on Tuesday, after he was found guilty on burglary and escape charges.

The young man had been arrested in connection with the robbery of two betting shops and a kiosk theft in Larnaca earlier this year.

On February 21, he escaped from the Larnaca police headquarters where he was being detained.

A few days later he surrendered himself to the police, following police questioning his relatives.

After the incident, two officers were suspended while a police spokesman confirmed the man was not handcuffed.
