Only politically difficult reforms guarantee sustainable growth

Constantinos Petrides

By Stelios Orphanides

Cyprus is an economy in transition and has a long way to go before it becomes a modern competitive economy in position to produce and sustain growth through a series of “politically difficult” reforms put forward by the government, an undersecretary said.

“We have to continue applying the rules of economic orthodoxy,” undersecretary to the president Constantinos Petrides told delegates at a conference in Nicosia today. “Economics, is the painful elaboration of the obvious”.
