House president’s son in hospital

Demetris Syllouris

Kyriacos Syllouris – the 23-year-old son of House president Demetris Syllouris – who is serving a year in prison after he was convicted for his involvement in a fatal car accident, was transferred to the Nicosia General Hospital for medical checks after complaining he was unwell, reports said on Monday.

According to media reports, the 23-year-old has been in the hospital since Friday after complaining of stomach pain. Doctors decided to keep him for further medical checks. While in hospital, he is reportedly under police surveillance in a room reserved for inmates.

Syllouris was sentenced in September to one year in prison for causing the death of 26-year-old Sebastian Petros Karapateas through negligent, reckless, and dangerous driving some three years ago. He has filed an appeal at the supreme court.
